What are "Tarlov Cysts"?

  • 1) Tarlov cysts are fluid-filled sacs that are usually found at the bottom of the spine.

  • 2) Shock, trauma, injury or even genetics can cause spinal fluid in the cysts to build up.

  • 3) "About 10% of people in the world have cysts in their spine...only about 1% have symptoms"

  • 4) Tarlov cysts can cause symptoms such as lower back pain, chronic pain overall, sciatica, headaches, GI issues, menstrual dysfunction, issues with bladder control, loss of feeling and movement of legs/feet.

  • 5) Tarlov cysts can cause permanent damage to the nervous system.

  • 6) Women are at a higher risk of developing these cysts than men.
